Aloo Matar



Aloo Matar is simple and quick dish made with boiled potatoes and green peas tossed with aromatic spices. It is spicy, savory and tangy dish that can be eaten with roti or paratha. This recipe is so versatile that can be used as stuffing for samosa, paratha and sandwich. Even you can form a Pattie for burgers. This recipe is dry version of Aloo matar, perfect for tiffin’s.  The gravy version is cooked with onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and some spices. Let’s get started with the recipe.




Ingredients:

  • 2 boiled and cubed potatoes 
  • ½ cup boiled green peas
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1-2 teaspoon ginger-green chili paste
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Dash of lemon juice
  • Chopped cilantro to garnish




Instructions:

  • Heat the oil in pan on medium heat. Add mustard seeds allow it to crackle, add cumin seeds, pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves. Quickly add green peas and sauté it for few seconds.
  • Add all masala’s and salt to taste. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Add potatoes and lemon juice, mix well. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
